During my professional life (1982-2004), I had the opportunity to co-own and operate limited-service, franchised hotels in Loudon County. We were among the first 50 Holiday Inn Express hotels in the International Hotel Group. Our properties consistently ranked in the top 95% across all areas of evaluation. Our second hotel was featured in the HIE brand sales brochures in 2001 and 2002. Hospitality has always been a passion.
In 2000, I was offered the opportunity to serve as the first female director on the Board of Directors of a 90+ year-old community bank. During my tenure on the board of First National Bank, I chaired the Compensation Committee and served on the Audit Committee. In 2015, First National Bank was acquired by a publicly traded bank. I was directly involved with the negotiations for the acquisition of First National Bank.
After retiring from hospitality, I discovered a new passion for working in the non-profit sector at the local level. Grayling and I chartered a public-school education foundation with the participation of six other local businesses and industries. My board service has included: The Loudon County Education Foundation, The Loudon County Visitor’s Bureau, The Loudon County
Chamber of Commerce, and The Good Samaritan Center. During my tenure on those boards, I not only served as chairman of several boards but also chaired several committees.
Since 1997, I have been an active member of the Rotary Club of Loudon. For five years, I co-
chaired our annual Farm to Table dinner. We partnered with local chefs and farms to serve
150+ people a four-course gourmet dinner at a local venue, highlighting the beautiful county where we live.
For the past four years, I have served as a board member for The Rocks Club Condominium Association. In addition to working with some very fine owners and residents, our board has established and implemented short- and long-range plans to ensure the continued success and
enjoyment of the Rocks community.
For almost 45 years, Grayling and I have had the opportunity to work with the wonderful
residents of Loudon and Loudon County. When we are not committed to either work or community service, we enjoy traveling. Vegetable gardening is also a fun hobby that I enjoy.
